Week 11: Cowgirl Clue "Utopia" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 11: Cowgirl Clue - "Utopia"   Grab the free download Ashley Calhoun, aka Wu-Wu, aka Cowgirl Clue, made her Burger debut with one of the rarest and most sought-after Burger Records releases, the limited-edition Halloween split with The Garden from 2014. Since then she's expanded her excellent experimental pop sound into this wild one-woman project and released her debut EP, Limelite, on Burger Records cassette. Cowgirl Clue first experienced the Burger Records phenomenon from her hometown of Austin, Texas during SXSW. "My cousin owns a venue there called Hotel Vegas. They host Burgermania every year, so I started going and getting to know them," say Ashley. "Then I moved to Orange County and I happened to live down the street from them, so I kept seeing them at shows." Life in Orange County soon provided a new perspective into Burger's operations and influence. "It's just been growing for years. It's very developed now and there's an aesthetic that's prominent," she explains, "I think my perception of Burger Records changed as it grew." Like a lot of people on the scene, Burgerama was at the center of this experiential perception. "It’s all ages, so there are tons of kids going crazy throwing flips off the stage. I think that whoever is experiencing that for this time period is pretty lucky. Unlike shows I went to when I was younger, going to punk shows, I see so many women and so many girls and people of all ages. It gives people an opportunity to connect with like-minded creative, young individuals... just the community. It's really cool to see people come together for music and art." We are happy to premiere Cowgirl Clue’s latest song, "Utopia", an inspiring tune about keeping your passion true. "As far as Utopia goes, I wrote it to connect my life to the industry," she notes, "The lyrics are implying that money may or may not buy happiness, but in the end, the industry is expensive and tries to get the best of you and your utopia. I feel it's important to stay true to yourself in life and you can be who you want to be. That's why I wrote Utopia ;)." Week 10: White Night "Dirty Water" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 10: White Night - "Dirty Water"   Grab the free download When attempting to describe the Fullerton / Anaheim, CA quintet, White Night (to those who have yet to give them a listen), one may face a challenge. Are they punk? Are they psychedelic? Are they attempting to go back to the days when pop or even pop-punk weren’t insulting things to be compared to? Or are they just plain ol' good time, hard-nosed rock and roll? The truth of the matter is that White Night is all of these things and more. While more bands are working to blur the traditional boundaries of nearly every genre, White Night fully embodies that melting pot sound which is reinvigorating rock and roll and its many sub-genres today. Like many bands that came before them, White Night was conceived as a way to meet girls. Guitarist and vocalist Frank Agnew, bassist and vocalist Jon Raines and drummer Mike Gonzales had previously played in bands embedded in the Orange County hardcore scene. But it wasn’t the best scene within which to reach girls, so they switched things up. "White Night started playing in mid-2008," says Jon. "Two of us had been playing together for a few years before that in Pterodacdudes and the Frank-fronted Shred Savage for about the same amount of time. Both bands were on the heavier side and we thought it would be cool to play stuff more pop-influenced and maybe more girls would come to the shows. The new sound soon found a home with their friends at Burger Records. "Sean and Lee are friends from way back," explains Jon. "Mike played in Thee Makeout Party for a bit and we've all been roommates at one point or another." The label would release White Night’s debut cassette Tour EP in 2009 which was followed by Immortal cassette in 2010, and most recently their full length album Weird Night in 2016. The band including Troy Rounsevllie on keyboard and Kevin Carle on guitar are working on their next record. They are also anticipating their first tour in Japan. Tour starts on July 20 and all Japanese dates are with Lenguas Largas from Tucson, Arizona. July 21 - Yokosuka Fuck Yeah w/ Mule Team, EXTRA PLANTS July 22 - Shimokitazawa Basement Bar (daytime show) w/ Number Two July 23 - Ashikaga Soundhouse Pico w/ Broken Mountain July 24 - Waseda ZONE-B July 27 - Tokushima w/ Silver Wigs July 28 - Osaka w/ Sanhose July 29 - Kyoto w/ Sanhose Catch up on previous week's releases: Week 1: The Side Eyes "Cat Call" Week 2: The High Curbs "Empty Bottles" Week 3: VAJJ "Honey Pie" Week 4: Wyatt Blair "Pop Your Heart Out" Week 5: The Flytraps "Female of the Species" Week 6: Hammered Satin "Upward Spiral" Week 7: Death Valley Girls "Born Again and Again" Week 8: Vision "Light" Week 9: Meow Twins "Ratchet Witch"

Week 9: Meow Twins "Ratchet Witch" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 9: Meow Twins - "Ratchet Witch"   Grab the free download Meow Twins are another great young band to emerge from the early days of Burger Records. Formed with two singers, aka Meow Twins, Candra Edwards and Lily Stretz linked together when they were freshman and sophomores in high school. Today, they are creating some of the most refreshingly unique and individually-sounding punk rock. The band was originally formed with the two singers, calling themselves "Twins" a la Meow Twins, though they are not actual twin sisters... more like cosmic, spiritual twins. Lily has put down the microphone and picked up the bass while Candra continues to hold down the lead vocals. They are joined by Ez Kramer on drums and Zaine Drayton on guitar, and currently call Long Beach, CA home. "In 2010 we started just going to shows at their record shop and then kinda met them I guess," says Lily. "We had friends that got on the label first and then kinda hooked us up," says Candra. "We were playing there too and setting up shows with our bands," explains Lily. "Most of the shows we went to there were shows we set up," adds Candra. Those who experienced Burger shop shows know what type of scene would gather. Zaine adds, "They had shows about twice a week. FREE shows twice a week!" Sean from Burger tells it like this: "Meow Twins were regulars at our record shop shows during the early years of our Fullerton store. They started as fans and before long started their own band and released their debut cassette (sold out, stream it on Spotify) on Burger Records! Double female punk vocals with a punk pedigree featuring the daughter of Corey Stretz of J.F.A.! Loud, fast and out of control, this band has been and will always be one of our favorites around here." They were also playing bigger shows at Burger events. There is one favorite show that sticks out. "Burger a Go-Go because you get free burgers," says Lily. "Best Coast played too," adds Ez. In February 2016, Meow Twins released their second Burger full length, Skin, and the band plans to hit the U.S. on tour this July, so keep an eye out for tour dates coming soon! Week 8: Vision "Light" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 8: Vision - "Light"   Grab the free download There are a lot of things a young man can choose to do after high school. Perhaps you could start a band. "As soon as Ben and I got out of high school we formed the band with Christopher who happens to be my older brother," says drummer Phillip Dominick. "We've been a band since 2011." At that time Burger Records were already cementing a reputation amongst Angelenos. "I've always been a fan of the label," says guitarist and vocalist Christopher Valer. "I've always been a fan of Ty Segall." Their band Vision would soon catch a ride on the Burger wave after a memorable encounter at a grassroots swap meet. "Independent label market, as I recall," remembers Phillip. "It was at Silverlake elementary school." Bassist Ben Nastase adds, "They had a booth there." Burger Records founder Sean Bohrman recalls: "We met Vision at a record label swap meet. I was sitting at our booth and saw this kid walk through the gate and start heading straight for us. He immediately handed us his demo and said he took a bus from East LA to come and meet us. He explained that they don't get the respect they deserve and it was really intense... this guy is not joking around! We listened to the demo on the way home from the swap and it blew us away. It was like a tough Brit-pop band from East LA... like Oasis with balls. And like Oasis, they were comprised of two brothers who are constantly at odds." From that point on, Vision and Burger were like family. "We released their debut tape, their debut LP, have taken them on tours and brought them on shows all over the USA. They're still just as intense as the day we met them." When we asked Vision "what's the best part of working with Burger Records?" their sentiment is similar to Sean's. "It's like working with your homies," says Chris. "Yeah, the relationship, it's really chill," added Ben. Guitarist George Verdugo went on, "the movement of Burger is really good. Burger just seems to be about the music which is awesome." Most of the Cyber Singles Club bands have a favorite Burger moment, Vision are no different and are unanimous in what that moment was. "Yes!" they all said at once with Chris going on to recall. "We always talk about it, when we went to do a photoshoot for Urban Outfitters up in Malibu. That was the first time we ever went to Malibu. We're poor kids from East LA, so that was the first time we ever got to go somewhere up those hills. We were partying... it was so cool. It was something that us street kids, punk rockers, would never experience. The fact that Burger was able to deliver that to us... it was like community. It's so cool that we can share that with them." Week 7: Death Valley Girls "Born Again and Again" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 7: Death Valley Girls - "Born Again and Again"   Grab the free download The Death Valley Girls sound is self-described as dystopian punk, doom boogie and occult glam. It's a spacey and seductive blend of styles. Since they first got together in 2013, this band was born to rock 'n' roll and destined to do so with none other than Burger Records. "Our first show was at their shop," says guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist Bonnie Bloomgarden. "That's how we met them," adds guitarist Larry Schemel. "That was our dream. That was the biggest dream in the world was to play a show at Burger Records. After that it was the biggest dream to have a cassette on Burger," notes Bonnie. Drummer and vocalist Laura Kelsey adds, "Then our biggest dream was to play Boogaloo," which they did in 2016. "The Mummies played and our whole destiny aligned for the future," explains Bonnie, "Whenever you get to play a Burger thing, it's cool." Sean from Burger explains their appeal: "Death Valley Girls have been cutting a wide swath through the poseurs and wannabes of the rock 'n' roll world for the past few years, all leading in to the release of their fiery debut album Glow In The Dark on Burger Records. They rule hard and their ruleage is at its most undeniable with this track from the Burger x Volcom Studio compilation, their first release since their debut album, continuing their most evil track record of head-banging glam punk blasts!" Death Valley Girls are currently casting a spell over Europe and UK while on tour this Summer.
