    RUMBLE FISH

There is snow on the hills of Portugal. The drive to Portugal is long and usually uneventful. But the destination is always worth it. Returning to places you’ve been before can be a hard act to follow. However with the teamsheet assembled we had little doubt we’d be on for a good one. We would rent a house that anywhere outside of Portugal would be out of our budgets and we would live there for the best part of a month as a happy, yet highly dysfunctional family. We would go between wedges in the Algarve, the scary side of surfing in Nazare, 6am finishes in Lisbon and the glorious points of Ericeria. We would call it Rumblefish. Filmed and edited by : Guillem Cruells Starring Alex Bothelo, Gony Zubizaretta, William Aliotti, Joao Moreira, Charly Quivront, Maud Lecar, Bapiste Gaud and Harry Timson. Abandoned Playground launch at Bud Skateshop

After a first event in Paris, Volcom celebrated again its new “Abandoned Playground” collection in Marseille last Thursday. Bud Skateshop was the perfect spot for it, located in the North area of the city, right in the middle of a center called “La Friche” that includes a fun concrete skatepark and various activities for multicultural blend of the area. On top of it, the Marseille bowl contest was on the same weekend so it was a no brainer to go on a mission. Bud skateshop miniramp got fixed for the occasion and some prizes got given away to the good tricks, while the DJ played some good tunes and drinks served. Most locals showed up together with some visiting skateboarders and the spirits were high. Thanks a ton to everyone who came, to Laurent “Momo” Molinier for running the shop and keeping the kids amped, DJ Raf for the sound and  Brian Bunting for the photos Get the “Abandoned Playground” Volcom collection at Bud Skateshop Fares is a young local from “La Friche” who started skateboarding a couple month back, right when he arrived in France from Algeria, he skates everyday since Local Julien Benoliel now works at a Tattoo shop but still shreds hard on a skateboard  The miniramp got inaugurated and annihilated by Vincent Matheron, Sam and the local kids DJ Raf Photo by Nicolas Jacquemin The day after the Volcom event, we went to the bowl check out the action, refresh the troups and support the heavy field of Volcom team riders:  Vincent Matheron, Pedro Barros, Luis Francisco, Vi Kakinho, Marcel Cama, Tom Bellot and Greg Ruhoff Luis on flight mode on the hip Vincent got his Jocker face on for the finals Pedro Barros with a Bs nosepick on the biggest extension Congrats to Pedro Barros for destroying the bowl and taking first place, Chris Russel 2nd and Luis Francisco 3rd

Abandoned Playground launch with DayOff Skateshop

On Monday 20th of August, Volcom officially launched the Abandoned Playground collection at DayOff Skateshop in Paris. Located right next to the infamous Place de la République, we set up a pop up store inside the shop for a week and celebrated the collection with a party the next day. Skate team riders Jorge Simoes and Ben Raemers came to shred the city for the occasion with young local Tom Belot, and some best tricks were organized on the plaza using abandoned objects on the Tuesday afternoon. After a good time skateboarding everybody moved to the shop to celebrate with free drinks, Volcom prizes and Joel Aubrée putting on a great tunes selection. Everyone had a blast and we want to thanks everyone who showed up ! Special thanks to Tonton Reddah and Snoop for making all this possible. Photos below by Thibault Lenours.

WÖRGL DIY OPENING PRESENTED BY VOLCOM

In a small town called Wörgl, located in the tyrol alps between the riptide of the Inn and landscapes that spreads subtle vibes as soon as you cross the border, you will find a handcrafted skatepark being one of the best in its field. A DIY project that got triggered by Roman “Asti” Astleitner & Marco owner of the local skate shop Pilotto and which is now – after 13 years of construction – one of the most stunning, fun and beastly skateparks you will find in all over Europe. Not least because of that, Skateboarders from all over Europe visit Wörgl year after year for a mandatory stop while crossing the Alps. So after the last part of the skatepark was being finished this year, we decided that it was finally time to unleash the concrete beast with an opening party that worships the hard work. The mixture was as easy as it could get – 2000€ cash for tricks, custom made Volcom X Wörgl X Independent truck trophies, a pigling BBQ, live music and cold austrian refreshments. We’d like to thank all of the locals and workers like Ralf Edlinger, Alex Kapfinger, Hannes Sautner, Peter Stromberger Leo Teissl, Roman Erhart that made this skatepark come to life. VOLCOM RAPID JAM MUNICH

What an insane weekend we all just experienced at the Volcom Rapid Jam going down on the infamous Eisbach wave in Munich! Starting at the local surf shop Santo Loco (Eisenmannstraße 4, 80331 München) we invited the munich locals for a get together with the Volcom Surf Team including Leon Glatzer, Gony Zubizarreta, Willi Aliotti and Charly Quivront. The beers were flowing and the boys even printed some limited Volcom X Santo Loco shirts for the mob. As the motivation increased and the sun set down, we took the crowd for a walk towards the Eisbach to heat everything up for the Rapid Jam. From flames & inflatable turtles on the wave, 1000 bucks for tricks, to loads of shotgun beers and the best guys to ever surf the static wave made the perfect combo for the rad atmosphere we enjoyed. It was a huge pleasure to see such a strong scene, getting rad and pushing the energy to the next level. Special thanks to Quirin Rohleder who made all of this happen and of course to all the other sponsors and helpers such as Globe, Totally Rad!, Goldene Bar, Wolfrik „den Flammenwerfer“ Kirkflow Fischer, Toby Haseloff und natürlich die FUS Crew. Skate Invadors - GQ x Volcom

Last June, Volcom introduced a new skate sculpture in Paris, France, at Place de la Republique. The project was in collaboration with the city of Paris, Sterling Project, some of the most iconic Parisian skateboarders, and Volcom. Going further than building a functional skatepark, Sterling Project developed an aesthetic sculpture which respects the local architecture of the plaza and helps to contribute to increasing the social experience of the skateboarders and the non-skateboarders who live in the surrounding areas. The result is an impressive 40-foot-long piece of granite, concrete, and metal in the shape of a Volcom Stone to serve as a skate spot for the local skateboarding community. GQ Magazine France documented this process and gave us a moving visual eye to the storytelling. This video is the behind the scenes look at the Place de la Republique project this past June.

COSMIC CONCRETE CARVE
We took the chance to support the DIY ethos by joining the approach of local skateboard enthusiasts in Chemnitz Germany to finish the work on the microbowl at AJZ Chemnitz. AJZ is one of the most recognized concert locations within the east of Germany. The spirit sorounding this place reaches beyond music and culture. The AJZ Chemnitz sees itself as an open space and a retreat, in which alternative forms of social and cultural life can be debated, tested and realized by an anti-fascist, anti-racist and antisexist claim. The Ramps in it’s garden tell the story of many years of skateboard, rock, rap and graffiti culture. We helped the project by providing clothing for a limited line of gear which proceeds went 100% into the project. Supporting the scene straight on the root, helping to create something that lasts and can be used beyond events. Of course we celebrated the opening of the bowl together with the scene, open mi need visitors and international guests from the United by Skate Camp, listing to the dark tunes of the one and only Church of Mental Enlightment. Thank you to the local scene for your enthusiasm, our local retailers Titus Chemnitz and Pauls Boutique for the support, Peter Rossner for the design, AJZ Chemnitz for having a space that allows dreams to become concrete reality. Repu Gets Stoned
After a long process of design, planning and production, Volcom worked with Sterling Projects to replace the skateboard obstacles in the Place de La Republique in the heart of Paris last week. The new setup has been designed specially to fit the plaza and will stay for a certain amount of time, while the “old” Stone granite spot has found a temporary new home in Place De La Bastille (where it was originally set during the summer of 2015). A good number of skaters from the Volcom team gathered last weekend to celebrate with the locals and share the good vibes: Ben Raemers, Rune Glifberg, Daan Van Der Linden, Alec Majerus, Harry Lintell, Eniz Fazliov, Jorge Simoes, Vincent Matheron, Alexander Risvad, Dustin Dollin,  Jonathan Vlerick, Tom Bellot, Noah Mailleux and Bart Buikman… After a “tribute” happening on Friday 15th June consisting of a session in Bastille followed by some refreshments and music at the Volcom Store, the inauguration of the new setup took place on Saturday 16 June, Place de La Republique: Before the mayhem begun, some free skate lessons were given to newbees ….. Cash prizes for tricks on the new Stone feature was given out and then the action moved to the 2 new benches line… the session got heated and went wild, in the end Alex Risvad from Denmark, Nolan Zangas (USA), Adrien Chabiron (Fr), Cesar Dubroca (Fr) and Ryo Sejiri (Japan) all got rewarded 400€ each. Oh and the whole event was Eco friendly too! The party ended at the Fluctuat café with beers, good times and some live music from Leopard Ale and Tversky who both will surely be in your next party playlist! The Volcom Road Rager Tour, French West Coast
It has been long awaited the chance to come back and visit Bretagne and enjoy the beautiful landscapes, the delicious crepes and the tasty cider. Unfortunately, we cannot say that we found good waves … it was mostly small and on-shore and as everyone told us “You should have been here yesterday, it was pumping !” Bad timing ? Maybe … but the guys prefer to surf on-shore waves anyway ! Willy Charly Baptiste We took a big camping car, asked William Aliotti, Charly Quivront and Baptiste Gaud to jump in, and drove all the way from Hossegor to Brest, our first stop of the tour with Side Shore Surfshop. We could enjoy some great surf movies at the Brest Surf Film Festival before heading south to visit Absolute Surfshop and surf in Crozon with the local kids that were ripping on their home spot ! No time to rest, the next day we had to be in Guidel to visit Action Line Surfshop, surf & skate on schedule ! The micro ramp is right in front of the shop and the kids were super keen so we decided to throw a Best trick Session ! Baptiste had a few tricks but the local groms took it home. We were very impress by their levels of skateboarding, hat down Guidel ! Next stop was Keepcool in Carnac where we had the best session of the trip at La Cote Sauvage, Quiberon. A super funny left where Charly and Baptiste had a blast on a sunny day. BTW, it was pissing rain in the South West of France ! Everyone was very excited about the next one in the Volcom Store Nantes, a student city where we heard the night life can be pretty epic. The surf team did some DIY Road Rager tshirts for the customers and we played a big darts tournament before visiting the museums and libraries of the city ... yeah maybe we only visited pubs and clubs … On a big hangover, we drove to Ile de Ré and had a beautiful evening at Reves D’Iles Surfshop where we skated in front of the shop and gave a skate lesson to the local groms. The day after we drove to Charly’s home town, Royan, to visit his dad’s shop Maracuja. A big crowd was waiting for Charly, the first surfer of the town who succeed in becoming a pro surfer. You can see that the kids are inspired by his achievements, that was nice and we had a blast, thanks Yannick ! To finish with fireworks we had plan a big one in Biscarosse at La Vigie, on the same days that the Junior Qualifying Series were running. Art expo by Roch Tortuga, live music by Cheaap, surf test by Firewire Surfboards, all these on tape for free. A big day to celebrate a great shop while the JQS was called OFF for a lay day. This tour was great, we shared some good times with our best surfshops, discovered a beautiful coast line and experimented the camper life. We will be back next year, one day in advance, so we should get more waves All the photos have been shot by Kevin Berthelot
