Interview with Alec Majerus on Cancel History

About a month or so ago we had an idea to have a skateboarder, surfer and snowboarder do all 3 board sports in the same day to celebrate the release of our Cancel History collection. Southern California is one of the few places where we could actually pull this off, so we enlisted skateboarders Alec Majerus, Omar Hassan, legendary snowboarder Jamie Lynn and surfer Noa Deane to hit the slopes of Mt. High, waves of Newport Beach and our very own skatepark here at Volcom HQ. Outfitted in original Volcom tee designs from the 90's it was just like the old days, 20 plus years later, but the vibe and true Volcom spirit was still the same. Snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding in the same day is no easy task, so we decided to have a brief chat with Alec Majerus, who he was actually snowboarding up in Big Sky, Montana with his family, to get his take on the day.

Hey Alec, how is it going what you been up to?
Good man, just been skating and snowboarding a lot lately.

We know your rip on a skateboard, but how long have you been snowboarding and surfing?
I've been snowboarding since I was like 8. I've only surfed a few times though

I heard you and your friends were psyched on snowboarding, surfing and skating in the same day, have you ever tried to do that before?
Nah I haven't done that before. It's always been a goal of mine.

What was the hardest part? The snowboarding, surfing or skating?
The surfing was so hard because the waves were pretty big and I was getting smoked

How much did you snowboard back home in Minnesota?
I used to do a lot of backyard snowboarding growing up because I couldn't skate.

A lot of people say snowboarding and skateboarding are very similar but still different, what are your thoughts? Do you find snowboarding easier since you rip so hard on a skateboard?
Yea I think if you can skate you can easily learn to snowboard and vice versa

You’ve skated some pretty monster rails but have you ever hit one on a snowboard?
Yea I lipslid and 5050 on a 16 when I was younger

I remember you were living in a studio apartment in Huntington Beach with all your Minnesota homies for a minute. Did you ever surf when you were living by the beach?
Nah, I didn't surf until I moved to Costa Mesa. Wish I would have took advantage of that though!

Between the dudes you did this epic day with, Jamie Lynne, Noa Deane and Omar Hassan, who were you more impressed with as far watching them do a board sport they’re not known for?
Noa said he had never snowboarded before and we took him to the top and he did it without falling. I was tripping on that.

After snowboarding and surfing Alec still had enough fuel in the tank to pop off the walls.

Lastly, what do you got planned for the rest of 2017? Aren’t you putting working on a homie video?
I don't know man, the homie bailed back to Minnesota and is over filming so that's botched. Filming a part with Ant Travis though.

VOLCOM RAPID JAM MUNICH
What an insane weekend we all just experienced at the Volcom Rapid Jam going down on the infamous Eisbach wave in Munich! Starting at the local surf shop Santo Loco (Eisenmannstraße 4, 80331 München) we invited the munich locals for a get together with the Volcom Surf Team including Leon Glatzer, Gony Zubizarreta, Willi Aliotti and Charly Quivront. The beers were flowing and the boys even printed some limited Volcom X Santo Loco shirts for the mob. As the motivation increased and the sun set down, we took the crowd for a walk towards the Eisbach to heat everything up for the Rapid Jam. From flames & inflatable turtles on the wave, 1000 bucks for tricks, to loads of shotgun beers and the best guys to ever surf the static wave made the perfect combo for the rad atmosphere we enjoyed. It was a huge pleasure to see such a strong scene, getting rad and pushing the energy to the next level. Special thanks to Quirin Rohleder who made all of this happen and of course to all the other sponsors and helpers such as Globe, Totally Rad!, Goldene Bar, Wolfrik „den Flammenwerfer“ Kirkflow Fischer, Toby Haseloff und natürlich die FUS Crew. Don‘t worry, it‘s only Rapid Surfing! #TrueToThis Photos by: Benson Photography, Luke Wolfgarten, Timo Kavermann, Grande Jenzonelli Video Edit: David Herbst Volcom surf gang Beers and good times at the santo loco shop William aliotti presenting his handprinted shirt to the boys Eli Christ Leon&Gony - photo Luke_Wolfgarten Germanys most crowded river The Anti Bad Vibe Shield was mandatory Leon,Gony, Lani

Skate Invadors - GQ x Volcom
Last June, Volcom introduced a new skate sculpture in Paris, France, at Place de la Republique. The project was in collaboration with the city of Paris, Sterling Project, some of the most iconic Parisian skateboarders, and Volcom. Going further than building a functional skatepark, Sterling Project developed an aesthetic sculpture which respects the local architecture of the plaza and helps to contribute to increasing the social experience of the skateboarders and the non-skateboarders who live in the surrounding areas. The result is an impressive 40-foot-long piece of granite, concrete, and metal in the shape of a Volcom Stone to serve as a skate spot for the local skateboarding community. GQ Magazine France documented this process and gave us a moving visual eye to the storytelling. This video is the behind the scenes look at the Place de la Republique project this past June.

La Kantera Invitational 2018 Recap
Winners got decided last Saturday 23 of June under a perfect summer day at La Kantera Invitational 2018! The legendary pool of Algorta got shredded into pieces by an international field of skateboarders, and besides a few injuries and a destroyed pool ladder, the action didn’t stop. Congratulations to Jordyn Barratt (USA) who took top honors in Women division, Nicky Guerrero (Denmark) for winning the Masters division and to Vincent Matheron (France) for his first place in the Pro/Am division. On top of all the action we also celebrated Alain Goikoetxea’s 20 years with Volcom in his hometown, surprising him with a giant Volcom Stone cake and an Eagletone guitar customized by his sister and artist Naiara. The warm up day (Friday) ended with a giant Barbecue at the beach on the evening, and with the local psychedelic band Purple Vellocet playing at Sunset. With the beers flowing, the party peaked with Pizza Knife taking over the stage with a killer punk show. Jordynn Barrat won Womens division with style fs smith over the deathbox It was all about good vibes on the contest day (Saturday), the public coming in numbers as the day advanced to watch the action in the grandstand around the pool or in the grass fields surrounding playa Arrigunaga. The action continued after the prize ceremony with Woody Woodcutters and FAVX playing a live free show under a stunning sunset. Then it was time to crack more cold ones down the beach for the annual Sanjuanada celebrating the longest day of the year with fires everywhere. Repu Gets Stoned
After a long process of design, planning and production, Volcom worked with Sterling Projects to replace the skateboard obstacles in the Place de La Republique in the heart of Paris last week. The new setup has been designed specially to fit the plaza and will stay for a certain amount of time, while the “old” Stone granite spot has found a temporary new home in Place De La Bastille (where it was originally set during the summer of 2015). A good number of skaters from the Volcom team gathered last weekend to celebrate with the locals and share the good vibes: Ben Raemers, Rune Glifberg, Daan Van Der Linden, Alec Majerus, Harry Lintell, Eniz Fazliov, Jorge Simoes, Vincent Matheron, Alexander Risvad, Dustin Dollin,  Jonathan Vlerick, Tom Bellot, Noah Mailleux and Bart Buikman… After a “tribute” happening on Friday 15th June consisting of a session in Bastille followed by some refreshments and music at the Volcom Store, the inauguration of the new setup took place on Saturday 16 June, Place de La Republique: Before the mayhem begun, some free skate lessons were given to newbees ….. Cash prizes for tricks on the new Stone feature was given out and then the action moved to the 2 new benches line… the session got heated and went wild, in the end Alex Risvad from Denmark, Nolan Zangas (USA), Adrien Chabiron (Fr), Cesar Dubroca (Fr) and Ryo Sejiri (Japan) all got rewarded 400€ each. Oh and the whole event was Eco friendly too! The party ended at the Fluctuat café with beers, good times and some live music from Leopard Ale and Tversky who both will surely be in your next party playlist!
