North America | Peanut Butter And Rail Jam - Bear Mountain, CA 2015

Stop #4 of Volcom Stone’s Peanut Butter And Rail Jam hit the SoCal snowboarding scene at Bear Mountain, CA on Saturday January 31, 2015.

Bear Mountain is notorious for some of the most insanely nice shred weather of any resort in North America.  It’s typical to see riders enjoy sunny 50-degree riding conditions day in and day out.  However, the PBRJ brought inclement weather conditions that tested each competitor’s mental toughness as snow and fog filled the contest venue. Luckily the Bear Park Staff had built one of the most creative and rider friendly set ups in PBRJ history.  The set up consisted of a closeout to drop rail or rooftop bank gap to down rail in zone 1, a four block/closeout rail with a flat down donkey tube in the middle of zone 2, and a closeout rail to S10 Blazer in zone 3.  All areas of the contest site boasted multiple ways of entrance and exit possibilities.  This allowed the riders to showcase their creativity as a crowd of 14,000 Bear Mountain patrons cheered them on throughout the day.

15_270out_2

Kainoa Pauohau originates from the islands of Hawaii and now shreds at Bear Mountain on the regs. He learned this bs bluntslide 270 out on Friday and brought it to the PBRJ on Saturday. It’s always rad to see progression!

15_Tommy_2

Tommy Olivas came out from Utah to throw down this gap over to lipslide on the down flat rail in zone 2. He kept his tricks fully styled out the entire day and took 3rd place in the 15 & Under Division.

15_Anthony_3

9-Year-Old Anthony Leyva floating a bs 180 over the Blazer in zone 1 as the cameras flash away. He is currently the youngest competitor to qualify for the 2015 PBRJ Championships taking 2nd place in the 15 & Under Division.

16_cody_1

Cody Westbrook dusts the snow off his board with a cab 270 fs boardslide from the rooftop box to down rail in zone 1.

16_Brendon_1

Brendon Krainer is a super positive guy that loves to shred. He puts down a 50-50 to lipslide pretzel out combination on the drop rail in zone 1. Coming fresh off a 2nd place finish at Stop #3 of the PBRJ at Mammoth Mountain, Brendon tipped the scales as he captured the win for the 16-21 Division at Bear.

16_will_2

Will Keene gaps from the closeout section of zone 2 and lands a rail clanging disaster lipslide on the flat section of the tube. He also 50-50’d a fellow competitors back in a prior attempt at this very trick. Check out our Instagram page ( @volcompbrj ) for the photo evidence.

G_indy_blast_3

10-year-old Riley Rivera was a shining light in the Girls Division as she sent multiple air to Blazer combinations in zone 3. She had the crowd on her side the entire time and she was very entertaining to watch.

G_Cory_3

Cory Ziel gaps over the closeout with a popped fs 180 into the hood of the Blazer in zone 3. This was her first contest ever and she received 2nd place in the Girls Division.

G_Veroniqi_2

Veroniqi Hannsen continues to get better year in and year out. She put down multiple tricks on all features including this flexed out bs tail press in zone 2 to earn the top spot in her division.

Lunch_Final

Lunch is a great time to huddle beneath the tent for food, story telling, and to your share your "True To This" tattoo.

O_yank_in_3

Nick Guin rips a boardslide indy grab and yanks over the closeout into the blazer in zone 3. This was one of our favorite tricks all day because of his commitment and style from beginning to end.

O_Mamba_2

Look how high and far off the rail Jonathan McDonald is on this 50-50 fs 540 out in zone 2. He was the only one that could successfully put this down the entire day. The crew agreed that it was a worth the title of Electric's $50 "Gooyest Move Of The Event" award.

O_Daniel_1

Daniel Bergström gaps off the rooftop kicker and settles into a solid bs lipslide in zone 1.

O_Buzz_2

Buzz Holbrook went wild style to land some of the most electrifying tricks of the event. Here he sends a Mach 1 50-50 front flip over the down flat portion of the zone 2 tube.

O_Robbie_2

Minnesota's Robbie Roether keeps things smooth with a hardway 270 bs lip 270 out in zone 2. He also landed a sw bs 270 off the rooftop kicker to down rail sw bs 270 off in zone 1 and a backflip rocket air over the blazer in zone 3 that had our judges nodding their heads in approval. He was super surprised to hear his name called in the top spot, but his overall performance was deserving of 1st place in the Open/AM Division.

We would like to thank Rio Tanbara, Clayton Shoemaker, and Missy Konig for their help in the facilitation of the PBRJ at Bear Mountain.  Thank you to the entire park staff for making a creative and innovative contest site.  Thanks to our judges Andrew Massey, Kirk Kaufmann, and Brandon Reppond for jotting down the scores.  Thanks to William Maniaci, Shannon Foley, and Javier Cagigas for their help with the ins and outs of the contest throughout the day.  We would also like to thank our tour sponsors, listed below, for styling out the competitors with all the extra stoke they provide for the entire PBRJ tour.

Leuven Skatecontest Report -Poolparty and Beach games Edition
To give you an idea of the whole contest, well it looked like the intro of Baywatch, girls in red bathing suits, guys in bathing suits…  Even the funky tunes in the background took me back into the 80’s. I have to apologize for my typo in the beginning, it wasn’t much of a contest, it was more like a family gathering. It was so cool, just a whole lot of friends hanging and fooling around in way to short shorts. But there were some contests though, like the Best 80’s air, hot sand challenge or my personal favorite: ‘ THE BEST FLIP FLOP TRICK ‘, guys hitting the rails or throwing switch tre bombs of the stairs in flip flops. Some mojito’s and some burgers in between, this was one hell of a contest. And to end the day, a crazy bowl contest. Everybody dropped in at the same time and the last man standing got a free deck, bet you can create an image of the mayhem. I have to say, it was a great day with great people. Big thanks to T(w)its, Willem and the whole Leuven family. Photo credit : Joselito Verschaeve

Volcom X AntiHero collection launch party in Belgium
The ingredients to a successful Volcom x Anti-Hero Launch Party ? Some local beers, some good burgers and a “secret” D.I.Y spot. The guys from Volcom and Twits Skateshop had it all figured out. The location was not posted online, only a phone number. Everybody that wanted to get the address of the spot, had to text message us. The phone got spammed and shortly after the spot was crowded and ready for the party. This day was all about good times, having a good skate session and catching up with the locals. After filming some lines and some dirt bike stunts, a best trick contest got organized to celebrate the new clothing collection. Everybody was skating the new obstacle and crashing into each other to get some of fresh products from the collab. Marcus Kleveland upside down down under!
The Kleveland show just came back from 5 weeks spent flipping and spinning all over Perisher, NZ and other Oz mountains.. Here a nice edit of what he’s being doing. Marcus is always in full control of all things snowboarding. However, from the sounds of it, someone picked the soundtrack for him this time around. How else would you explain the absence of the usual “Justin Bieber on speed” sound? Go Marcus! Nixon | The Four Moors: a journey through Sardinia
Italy, the European country home to the Vatican, ancient ruins, Renaissance masterpieces, fashion, food, among countless other noteworthy things, is not typically associated with world-class waves. But things DO change. When a significant swell started tracking in the Mediterranean, Volcom’s Gony Zubizarreta and friend Marlon Lipke embarked on a plane to Sardinia, Italy, and joined Roberto D'Amico for an epic three-day surf mission that left them with a new perspective on Italy’s surf breaks. The Four Moors is a short film documenting this adventure. Film / edit by Francesco Thilo Sili. “I was just arriving home after the WQS in Martinique and got a call from Marlon Lipke saying that Italy was going to be pumping the next day! Roby Damico was already planning everything from Rome. We jumped on a plane that next morning and got the Ferry to Sardina straight away, we had to get there in time. The Mediterranean can be very tricky, swells come and go very quickly!” -Gony “I was impressed by the quality and power of some point breaks we surfed. Super rippable waves with pretty cool locals or even empty line ups and little bays with beautiful backgrounds and nobody around. The Italians are so funny, very open and social, they are constantly joking and laughing which made our trip one for the books! We had an awesome time, surfing all day and eating pasta amatriciana cooked by the master Chef Roberto Damico aka DiMaggio. The pizza was the best I’ve ever tried for sure. Food is out of control there. I miss it already.” -Gony “It was an amazing trip. I loved Italy and have to admit that I’m a fan of surfing in the Mediterranean Sea. Thank you, Roby and family for treating us like kings! Also, big thanks to Francesco Thilo for the filming and editing! Eugenio and all the friends that made this journey unforgettable for me! Big Hugs, Guillaume.” -Gony   It was an amazing trip, I loved Italy and have to admit that Im a fan of surfing in the Mediterranean Sea. Thank you Roby and family for treating us like kings! REPORT Volcom x Anti Hero Launch Party at Madrid
Super good times with our friends from Welcome Skateboarding in Madrid last Friday. We celebrated the Volcom X AntiHero product collaboration at the Welcome Bowl the classic way, we used the good old triple B recipe for success: Beers, Bands and BBQ. We added some fresh Volcom X AntiHero gear, cash prizes and one jamón to fire up the skate sesh. Volcom and AntiHero team riders Daan van der Linden and Chris Pfanner joined the party and soon the bowl got mopped with some sweat from the body tossed and it earned some new holes in the corners thanks to the heavy shredding of everyone. Thanks to Borja, Pablo and everyone at Welcomesk8, Bruno chef, Alain Goikoetxea, David Sanchez, Skankie, Pfanner, P-Stone, Carranza, Danny León, King Cayman, Zero 5 and everyone who showed up!   Volcom x Anti Hero collection is available in Spain at these fine skate shops: AJ Project Freeboard Fvck Kakoshop La Plaza One Foot Ola Skate Welcomesk8 Good times the session started early Photo : Adrian Rios Danny LeonPhoto : Esteban Velarde Daan Van Der LindenPhoto : Adrian Rios BBQ all eveningPhoto : Esteban Velarde Alain Goikoetxea bstail Photo : Esteban Velarde Borja waving the HamPhoto : Adrian Rios Danny LeonPhoto : Adrian Rios   Carranza carcass tossPhoto : Adrian Rios Photo : Adrian Rios PStone documented the actionPhoto : Adrian Rios The miniramp got lit up by Zero5 the bandPhoto : Adrian Rios Chris Pfanner late night street beers with Pstone and Christian Good times
