North America | Peanut Butter And Rail Jam - Mont St. Bruno, QC 2015

Stop #2 of Volcom Stone’s Peanut Butter And Rail Jam fell into a deep freeze at Mont St. Bruno, Quebec for some smoking hot riding on Saturday January 17, 2015.

Intro_1
Mont St. Bruno keeps the holiday spirit alive with lots of pine trees and red on the hill as the PBRJ spreads the cheer.

With rolled up snow pants, skate helmet, open windbreaker and hooded sweatshirt the Montreal locals have a style all their own.  It’s hard for an outsider to fully comprehend the sheer frigid temperatures of this day and the fashion over function mind set. Canadian blood must be thick because most moms say they were underdressed for the occasion. Or maybe the fire of their maneuvers is how these shredders fend off the frostbite. Either way, these guys and gals were getting after it!

Today’s Parks, headed by front man Guillaume Fournier, built a contest set up that was on point for everyone.  It featured a elevated lift tower that extended into a diving board exit, a flat box to flat rail combo middle section, and a pole jam to down flat down tube that added some flavor to this fan favorite feature.  Everyone was charging the obstacles with his or her own little twist and spin as practice ended and the riders meeting was called.  Competitors got the full breakdown and order of operations as their teeth chattered and eyelashes began to crystalize.  At this point all were ready to warm their blood as they hiked to the top to get ready to provide some red-hot jib action.

Intro_2
You can see how cold it truly was as you look at the riders frosted faces...brrrr.
15_Ben_1
Benjamin d’Hugues loads his shoulders as he gets ready to spin fs 270 off the end of the diving board feature in zone 1.
15_lip_3
Lenny Rawlinson had the long hair flowing in the breeze as he musters up a sw bs blunt slide 270 out on the kink tube in zone 3.
15_DAVID_2
David Tourngny turned heads the entire day. This 13-year-old kid manhandled any and all features in his path. David throws a combo with a boardslide on the box, 50-50 across the rail, and finishes with seamless fs 360 out. Not only did he capture the 15 & Under win, David also took home the $100 Rev’d Rider award with a look of surprise and excitement on his face.
16_hotgarbage_1
Clement Pageu throws some “hot garbage” on this fs boardslide across the tower as he exits back to regular in zone 1.
16_Bernard_2
Bernard J-R showing his version of the “Montreal snowboarding uniform” fending off the frostbite by setting zone 2 ablaze.
16_gabriel_3
Gabriel Gosselin had the judges seeing red as he landed a half cab 50-50 fs 270 lipslide to regular through the DFD tube in zone 1. The red-jacketed rider stuck out in the judge’s minds as they awarded him with a brand new Volcom Snowboard for his smooth moves.
16_Nath_2
Nathaniel Vachon didn't think twice about the consequences of blasting this transfer from zone 1 to zone 2 as he gapped over to board slide. He was the only one that accomplished this feat the entire day. His no nonsense riding and style helped him grab ahold of 1st place in the 16-21 Division.
G_Samantha_3
12-year-old Samantha Secours pole jams into the down-flat-down tube in zone 1. It was really impressive to see anyone go through this process and we were stoked to see her get after it with no hesitation.
G_Cedrick_1
Cédrick Lessard is a true snowboarder's snowboarder. She rides with style and finesse as she pulls a beautiful nose blunted lipslide in zone 1. She also gapped the DFD with a lipslide that had the guys wiping the frost from their eyes. It’s no wonder why she found herself atop of the Girls division.
lunch_group
It is rare to hear the term “get it while it’s hot” when you speak of a PB&J sandwich. Hungry competitors hustle to get their gooey sandwiches together before Mother Nature freezes their spreadable options.
O_Axel_1
Axel Théoret adds his own personal style and flair to the lift tower in zone 1. This man is a character and his snowboarding is a true reflection of that.
O_GOGO_3
Alexandre Gauthier flexed out this half cab nose press on the zone 3 down-flat-down without a single tap of the tail. It was so clean that he earned himself Electric California’s “Gooyest Move Of The Day” with $50 and a pair of shades to boot.
O_disaster_2
Hailing from New Hampshire, Jed Sky travels hundreds of miles to capture a spot in the 2015 PBRJ Championships by stomping tricks like this gap to front board claiming a 2nd place finish in the Open/Am Division.
O_Dorval_1
JP Dorval rips through the lift tower with a 50-50 bs 540 out in zone 1. Check out the retro shape of his snowboard because it looks awesome.
O_Gab_3
Gabriel Jacques blasting a gap bs 270 lipslide in zone 3. The landing was pure ice by this time and big tricks like this one had serious consequences. He also landed sw fs board slide through the entire down-flat-down to show that he had both tech and gnar in his wheelhouse. Needless to say, Gabriel was the overall winner in the Open/Am Division.

We would like to extend a great deal of gratitude to Melanie and the rest of Mont St. Bruno's staff for their diligence and attention to detail across the board.  Thank you to Guillaume Fournier and the entire park crew that left no stone unturned when building and maintaining the PBRJ contest site.  Thanks to our judges Charlo Beauregard, Julien Levesque, and PL Hamel for the scoring prowess. Thanks to Christina Campbell and JP Bélanger for helping with logistics throughout the day.  Lastly, our sponsors are awesome brands that support snowboarding at its core.  Check them out at the links below.

Volcom Skate Team’s Favorite Pieces from the Holiday 2017 Collection
Abandoned pools, rent-a-cops, real cops and more fences than we ever cared to deal with! For the release of our Holiday 2017 Collection, we grabbed a few of our skate dudes and asked them to pick out their favorite pieces. CJ Collins, Dane Burman, Milton Martinez, and Alec Majerus each handpicked their go-tos and we headed off to some skate spots to film them in the gear. Dive in below to watch these mini edits and explore the Holiday '17 Collection. CJ COLLINS We met up with CJ and legendary Steve "Salba" Alba to check out a couple of Salba's secret backyard pools scattered throughout the inland empire. The first pool was small and steep, but CJ is so small that he had no problem putting down some difficult tricks. In the last pool we visited, there was a massive love seat that seemed daunting to say the least. Our anticipation would have been much higher, but with someone like CJ who can spring his way over almost anything, he had no trouble boosting a backside ollie over it. Salba joined in on the action and was seriously impressed with what he saw go down throughout the day. After the two exhausted themselves trying to master the deep end, the crew packed up and had a rewarding early dinner at none other than Chilis. Frickin Modern Chino CJ Collins, grom trash duty DANE BURMAN We picked up Dane at Black Box Distribution in San Diego (where he's currently living on the couch), and kicked around spots to check out. We were trying to film a trick a few weeks with him before the second Wanderlodge trip, and he got hurt, so this session was his first time back. The first spot we found was a gap to rail, but we got kicked out so we decided to come back later when the place was closed. We drove around for awhile and checked out more spots, but they were either too big or there was another obstacle in our way. Eventually, we made it to a school where there were a few solid handrails, but fences plagued the areas so we moved on. He hopped a fence and found these cool trees that he could ollie through, but thought the gap was too long. Luckily, there was a grate in front of one that he could prop up with a skateboard and launch off of. He attempted the tree ollie a few times, but came up short. He was motivated to conquer the trick, so he kept trying, again and again, and even with the tight squeeze between the branches, he ended up stomping the trick with ease just before we were to head off to another spot. Frickin Regular Chino Pants Dane Burman strategizing his tree ollie MILTON MARTINEZ Milton wanted to skate the first spot we found because he said he wanted to "go fast and fly." Alex, part of the Volcom crew, brought his Harley to tow him in to a huge gap jump, but we ended up having the cops called on us and Milton couldn't get the trick down before we got told to leave. Although, he did get a kickflip melon pretty quick while the cops were in route. That spot was fun, but illegal, so we went to another spot Milton could get towed in to by the Harley. The route to tow in at this new spot was narrow and not really enough room to completely stop, so he had to ride through the grass to make it work. Milton ollied off the bump all the way to the street in under an hour, and when we were filming all the b-roll stuff, Alex caught a patch of soft grass and crashed his motorcycle. Luckily, he wasn't hurt and his bike wasn't too busted, so we ended up fitting it in the back of the van and headed out. Kneon Nights T-shirt Milton Martinez taking a breather ALEC MAJERUS We rolled up on a spot w/ Alec, saw some huge stairs, and knew someone had to do it, and that someone was Alec. The photographer, Swainston, wasn't too familiar with Alec, so he wasn't expecting anything gnarly, but that's exactly what he got. When he realized Alec was going for an ally-oop backside flip over the stair rail, he knew he had to buckle down and be ready to nail the shot. Alec took some beatings, but kept a determined and motivated vibe alive. He nailed it, and so did Swanston. Frickin Modern Chino Pants Alec eyeing up a rail

LONGO, HAAKONSEN AND FRIENDS IN OLIVIER GITTLER’S INTROSPECTION
OLIVIER IS A MAN OF MANY TALENTS. AT RIDING HIS SNOWBOARD, FILMING, EDITING, MAKING MUSIC, OR CELEBRATING LIFE, HE CONSTANTLY EXCELS. Oh, Oli's also the reigning Quarter Pipe World Champion, although he'll never admit to it. It’s no secret that a 30-second Instagram clip is usually a condensed version of a week-long trip around the world to document a specific goal. Whether it's a trick for a video part, a photo for the mags, field testing product, or any other reason to chase a winter storm. But, what about all the shenanigans in between? From airplanes to rental cars, hotel rooms to summits, and everything in between, sometimes the moments that define these trips are caught in-between takes. Volcom ambassador Olivier Gittler, with his strong appreciation for behind-the-scenes footage, put together this unique look at a season untold with Arthur Longo, Terje Haakonsen and friends.  "IT’S WHAT WE LOVE TO DO. ALL THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN WHEN WE TRAVEL FOR SNOWBOARDING. THE SPONTANEOUS PART OF TRAVELING AROUND THAT NO ONE ELSE SEES." – OLIVIER GITTLER Oli double exposure photo by Adailton Oli Mike and Jeff shot by Vernon Deck Oli Mike and Jeff shot by Vernon Deck music recording setup iphone Oli and Arthur iphone Oli close up shot by Arthur Oli forest iphone Oli Mt Blanc iphone Oli photo by Adailton Oli setup iphone Oli shot by Longo - Crater Lake Super 8 Paulina Lake iphone
