Volcom Hot Spot // Barcelona

Maybe you already live in a cool town like Barcelona, located in front of the beach with this indescribable amazing vibe. Or maybe you don’t, but you’ve been planning to spend a weekend there with your friends or boyfriend. If the latter fits you, you’ll probably love this article. This week we asked Patricia, our Volcom Store Manager in Barcelona, to share her favorite spots in the city. I don’t know about you but after writing this we already want to try all these places.

Where to get a drink and/or eat something?

Makamaka Beach Burger Café is definitely the place to go if you want to try the best affordable burgers in town in a laid back, relaxed and cool ambience.

Surf House Barcelona is born from the California way of life. Indeed, if you want to eat fast but healthy with product of quality, you should find happiness here. They have really nice smoothies and breakfasts and DJs are playing on the weekend. Before relaxing in front of the beach, you can still try one of the activities organized by SHB: insane training, running, paddle surf or even yoga.

Gallito Is a restaurant under the vine leaves, next to the beach, with a casual atmosphere. This mix derives from a simple food prepared with fresh quality product made into a home cooked meal with touches of worldly flavors that that lets us travel away without leaving the table.

Where to listen to music?

Apolo club is actually made up of two adjacent venues - Apolo 1 and Apolo 2. Apolo 1 is a larger space with an old theatre vibe - high ceilings, a large stage and lots of red velvet. Apolo 2 is a more modern space - darker, smaller and with a banging sound system. Before heading to Apolo it is worth considering the line-ups in the two different clubs - programmers try to ensure that the genres don't clash, ensuring that you can choose from a varied music selection. Apolo's music policy is one of the most forward thinking in the whole city. Both Apolo 1 and Apolo 2 are gig venues until midnight, after this the DJs hit the decks. Genres on offer span from everything hip hop to dub step to techno to burlesque, all depending on what night of the week you are there.

Apolo’s Nasty Mondays an excuse to dance, sing and shout every Monday. It is a party that is directly linked to the skate, surf and snowboard scene at which you can hear Rock, Pop, Indie, Garage, 80’s and Electro Rock. The night was born in 2004 on a cold Monday night in Escudellers Street and has grown and grown until it found its home and its identity in Apolo.

Primavera Sound Festival was created in 2001 and takes place every year sometime during May. All the indie groups of the moment perform in the Parc del Forum. The Primavera Club is the same festival but in November and this time it all takes place in different spots of the city.

Every year since 1994, the Sonar Festival goes off in Barcelona for a weekend in June in order to honor electronic music and multimedia art. On the agenda: an impressive line-up that brings together the best DJ’s of the moment

Where to stay true to this?

Marbella Skate Park is a bowl skate park on the beach where it’s fun to see some insane skating, or do some yourself, while not being too far from the ocean to take a dip if things get to hot.

Nevermind is a unique underground Grunge venue, with a skate bowl inside, cheap prices and a great 90's vibe. It blends perfectly grunge music and skate culture. With live performances of both music and skate, Nevermind in it's two locations, is one of the best kept gems of Bcn's bar scene.

MACBA is the official Skater spot, in the middle of the city. MACBA is short for the Metropolitan Museum of Barcelona, also known as Plaça dels Angels, where all the skaters gather most days of the year. The museum is worth a visit and great coffee, drink and lunch spots surround the open square, or “plaça” outside.

As Barcelona’s not famous for it’s surf, even though it does get occasional small waves, Stand Up Paddling could be an option for some of you at Barceloneta Beach.

And last but not least, don’t forget to go to the Volcom Store located at Calle Canuda 35, 08002 Barcelona and check out the totally rad mosaic creation on the floor at the entrance, made as a tribute to the Gaudi style which has made Barcelona so famous.

Patricia and her team will be happy to help you with anything!

INTERVIEW + OUTFIT INSPO W/ SKATER GIRLS DEIMANTE AND AIMEE ROCKIN' OUR GEORGIA MAY JAGGER SPRING COLLECTION
CHECK OUT THIS INTERVIEW WITH SOME OF THE RADDEST SKATER BABES SHOWING US THEIR OUTFIT INSPO IN OUR NEW GMJ SPRING COLLECTION Our favorite London-based photographer, Leila Afghan, is back at it again, snapping photos and hanging with Deimante Sprainaityte and Aimee Gillingwater, two skater girls who are not afraid to rock their own styles. We were able to have a quick chat with the girls while they rode around town in our newest Volcom x Georgia May Jagger Collection, a collection inspired by 90's streetwear. Keep scrolling for the interview and some major women's outfit inspiration! Tell us about the shoot locations! DEIMANTE: Ballroom is a DIY Spot in Buckinghamshire. An abandoned building that used to be offices. Around three years ago, local skaters located it and started building it up slowly into a skate park that is one of the best DIY spots I have seen. AIMEE: Soho and London. The land of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. The London center of street and skater fashion. Soho is an area, as a musician, I spent a lot of time during my youth staring at all the instruments Denmark St. had to offer. It’s an interesting location as the collection was designed by Georgia May Jagger, the daughter of the frontman of the Rolling Stones. Soho has a lot of history attributed to her family. Do you prefer skating street or transitions? DEIMANTE: Both AIMEE: Both Who is your favorite skater? DEIMANTE: Nora Vasoncellos for sure AIMEE: Maria Dal Santo Do you skate goofy or regular? DEIMANTE: Goofy AIMEE: Regular Who are three people you would bring back from the dead? DEIMANTE: David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Dylan Rieder AIMEE: Carrie Fisher, David Bowie, Nina Simone

Volcom Rail Jam 2018 at Volcom Krynistler Snowpark
We had a great day during our first edition of Volcom Rail Jam ! Event was located in Volcom Krynistler Snowpark which Volcom is a main sponsor starting this season !! Atmosphere was excellent, we had not bad weather great set up prepared by Park Pirates and nice group of the best and craziest jibbers. We have started at noon with qualification part open for everyone. Riders were kicking from the beginning, ripping strong tricks on high skilled obstacles. 3 lines with different hardness made a big challenge for everyone forcing guys to the limit. Everything was hyped by music, and a delicious BBQ free for anyone with special thanks to our local partner BoardZone ! Gnu snowboards organized a bunch of jib boards for testing. Going further after quali time we had final runs , with plenty of mellow tricks- shredding all lines , doing transfers and strong combinations! Judges decided and pointed our first 3 best Volcom Rail Jam competitors. 3rd place that day was taken by Kuba Szkaradek for his nice style and technical lines. On the 2nd stage of podium we had our Volcom Man – Maciek Długosz who showed everyone that style matters and doing big transfers is profitable, he was unbreakable ! The best and the furious was one and only Rafał Sypień !! He blasted the strongest ones, he was the most creative and made a most varied trick combinations. "Home, Sweet Home" with Joan Duru
Joan is a huge fan of barrels, which is why this video edit is packed with nothing but France beach break barrels. Before his start on the 2018 World Surf League Championship Tour, Joan enjoyed a short break at home, snagging a couple good days during a not-so-good winter. Good luck to Joan on the 2018 Championship Tour!

VOLCOM CHAMSHACK 2018
Following the success of the joint Volcom Snow Team House/Marketing Facility in, which we’ve held since the winter of 2004, we figured that doing something particularly for our beloved French snow accounts was long overdue. It turns out not everyone can be bought with Beers & Schnitzels! Besides, the French Alps are, after all, home of arguably THE most impressive chunks of rocks in all of Europe. Many French location options were initially considered (Val D’isere, Portes Du Soleil, La Grave, etc) but in the end all roads and arrows pointed at Chamonix. There’s just no escaping this mythical village, or small town if you like, equally adored as it is feared and even dreaded. Given our commitment to making outerwear as technically advanced and rider-appealing as any mountain gear manufacturer out there, then field testing it in the harshest conditions available, (Be it on top of Aiguille du Midi mid-Blizzard or inside Elevation Bar during Scando happy hour) Chamonix was chosen faster than CGT can set up a road block. Voila! Deal sealed We took over a ravishing Chalet for a 3-week period, then sent out invites to our dearest accounts to come join us in celebration of life, aka snowboarding. What better place to get better acquainted with Volcom’s proprietary Zip Tech, Face Tech and TDS technologies than while riding and taking in the stunning, unrivalled high-alpine beauty of the Chamonix valley? A typical day started with a massive breakfast prepared by one of our marketing clowns, then assessing conditions, picking the right outerwear for the conditions and finally deciding, in close conjunction with one our guides, which mountain to grace with our presence. Snow Team riders Arthur Longo, Vale Ducourtil, Oli Gittler and many others all came by for various periods of time, entertaining and pushing our guests beyond their abilities, while showing them what’s possible on a snowboard when not spending your life in an office. Then, in hot pursuit close behind or slightly ahead (All depending on the best angle) was our long-time photographer extraordinaire Vernon Deck, immortalizing perhaps some of their finest riding ever captured on film and video as an added bonus for our dear visitors. Come 4 pm it was Beer o’clock, either directly in our on-site wheels, the Volcom Snow motor home, or where ever the nearest beer on tap was to be found. Upon returning to our chalet, showering & snacking, it was time for massages, movies, story talk or simply chilling.. Then at nite off we went to one of our many mouth-watering restaurants of choice, before returning back home to the good ole Chamschack chalet to sleep, dream of what tomorrow brings and repeat. On the rare occasion that someone wasn’t falling over by now but surprisingly still had juice in them for more, young stallion Vince was always standby, frothing to undo the top button of his shirt and let them chest hairs hit the highly gender-disparity challenged Chamonix nightlife. Would you expecting anything else? Your friends at Volcom Snow always keeps an eye open for every scenario. But that is a story all of its own. Merci Beaucoup to everyone who came to visit us, our guides, Man & Wolf Beer, Chamonix itself, Nitro and Korua for boards WELCOME TO THE VOLCOM CHAM SHACK HOUSE 2018 Happy camper  Snow legend Polo Tornado from Laboshop with style Sure beats a day at the office Valé Ducourtil, Polo Tornado, and Mr Caule spliting Tailgrab with the freak Mat Siboni L'1prévue shop The reward of a good split session It's important to celebrate when you have a good day Vallée Blanch mission with Valé and the group Valérian digs Vanilla Ice Le Brevent side view Our guide Paul at Le Tour David was always the first to sertve up cold ones. Here with the Black Cats boys !
