Volcom Hot Spot // Les 2 Alpes

Winter is on its way and we can’t wait to be on the top of the mountains. This week, Yannick and his team from the Volcom Store in the ski resort Les Deux Alpes, introduce you to their resort by sharing their favorite places.

Les Deux Alpes could be called a small paradise for snowboarders. The ski area is huge and you can ride almost all year round thanks to its high altitude glacier at 3600m. Park rats will without doubt find happiness with one of the best snowparks in France. For freeriders, the off-piste areas offer many great opportunities. Snowboarding is one thing. But Les Deux Alpes will also not let you down with the party life, offering you entertainment night and day. To make a long story short, there is something for everyone here.

Where to eat ?

If you think a ski resort can’t accommodate a true gourmet restaurant? The Raisin d’Ours will prove you wrong, every day in the winter season. You can expect the most passionate food there. The place offers a warm atmosphere and the team will surely put you at ease. The greediest will enjoy different dishes of fish and meat. But will leave it to you to discover the menu.

Casa Nostra: this Corsican restaurant will take you to the top. At the heart of the resort, Casa Nostra can be describe as the official ambassador of the beautiful island that is Corsica. You’ll be welcomed into a nice house with exposed stone, giving it an authentic vibe. It’s the perfect place to taste fine wines while enjoying tapas. To be honest, 98% of the menu can be claimed to be the truly "homemade". You can even take a look at the many bottles of Corsican wines as the winery is open to the room.

For a Savoyard and traditional cuisine, but always delicious, go to “La Porte d’à Coté”. On the main street of the resort, you can’t miss “La Porte d’à Coté” which actually means “the door to the side”. That name because the lovely couple Nikki and Frank are the owners of The Windsor pub adjacent to the restaurant. Thus, we can go directly from a deckchair on the solarium of the pub to a chair on the terrace of the restaurant to extend the pleasure of being in the heart of the resort. All wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere explained with two words: woody and cowhide.

At the Tribeca, all of the furniture came from second hand market. On the walls are family's photos and some of unforgettable evenings, cause when it goes mad here it goes crazy! You will find a large sun terrace to enjoy your meal and perfect your tan.

Smithy's Tavern is known for offering fantastic food in the upstairs Char-grill restaurant to rocking nights in the bar dowstairs. Here, there's no doubt that you will find a nice restaurant experience or a full on party night.

Maybe you are looking for a slightly more gourmet cuisine in an authentic atsmophere? Le Chalet Mounier will please you. Here is the Michelin-starred highest restaurant of the Isère since it's at an altitude of 1650m.

Where to have a drink / party?

From 3pm onwards you can plan to take a break at Pano Bar, located at 2600 meters. For two hours, the most party loving riders come to dance to the electro mix of the resident DJ. A glass of champagne or a shot of vodka will help you recover from the last slope. If you want to be lazey around a bottle, you can find a VIP area for more private chilling. The view across the valley is sublime. Take off your coat, up on the table and enjoy the electrifying atmosphere. Pano Bar closes at 5pm for a final descent to the station.

It’s too early to go home so let’s continue at the bottom of the slopes. Forget the change or the shower and go directly to the Umbrella Bar. The place takes its name from the huge umbrella that unfolds over the bar to turn the bar into an improvised tent. A large terrace is also available for the less chilly. Cocktails can be enjoyed in a musical atmosphere that mixes electronic music and hits.

Royal! Normal for Windsor, a historical figure of Les Deux Alpes, since it is the last bar that still exist after opening together with the station 20 years ago. This royal house will please those who want to find the best pub atmosphere in this Alpine resort. A very nice pub with banknotes from everywhere glued to the ceiling. All ages and all nationalities intersect with the same happiness no matter what your cup might contain. They have a great selection of beers and whiskeys so you’ll have reason to keep going back for a new one. Also worth mentioning is that you can go to this address early in the morning for a perfect English breakfast before hitting the slopes.

Motown Café welcomes you every day from 8am to 2am in a elegant, friendly and warm atmosphere. If you like to listen to Soul, Jazz or Funk, you should go there and enjoy a free plate of tapas with your aperitif after 6pm. The sun lounge is open until 5pm.

After all the raclette and fondue, it might be time to loose a few calories on the dance floor of the Avalanche, the nightclub of Les Deux Alpes. Run by the same team as the Pano Bar during the day. The sets tend to be quite focused on electronic music and so it runs until 5am with seasonal tourists setting the mood on the dance floor and around the bar.

Where to stay true to this?

Don’t hesitate to ask the team at the Volcom store for the best riding spots!

If you want to try something new, it’s possible to be dropped off by helicopter for the day at l’Alpe d'Huez (the adjacent station) from Les 2 Alpes for a reasonable price.

Then last but not least –Take a ride through the Volcom Store of Les Deux Alpes and update your wardrobe with some of the season’s new arrivals.

Volcom Welcomes Hailey Langland to Global Snow Team
Hailey Langland has been making a name for herself since she started snowboarding at age five. She exists in changing time zones, her passport stamped with groomer laps, take-offs and landings. She's got a front three that floats for days and radiates a style that's beyond her years. She grew up paddling into waves and pushing down streets in beachside San Clemente, CA. She first made turns at Bear Mountain and now calls Mammoth’s Main Park home, both proving grounds for sovereign snowboarders. She's fluid and explosive. She has a method that turns heads. It's the kind of kick-out that can't be learned. It's built-in from birth, harkening the past that's built for the future. We can't be more excited to welcome Hailey to the Volcom Family. She brings an impressive past, a promising future, and an unmatched personality which radiates passion and perseverance. While she joins us now, she has always been destined to the Stone. It was only a matter of time for the stars to align, and that time is now. Hailey Langland. Photo: Mike Pham // @phamuel "I'm psyched to be joining the Volcom Family! It's a dream come true to be part of a family that's much bigger than just snowboarding. I can't wait to see where this journey takes me." Hailey’s collection of heavy medals is already plush, though she’s truly just getting started. She landed a first-ever cab double ten in the 2017 X Games and earned her first Aspen gold. See? Just getting started. She’s logged time on podiums around the world. Slopestyle? Check. Big Air? Check. Three years in a row, she’s won the Drink Water Rat Race—a banked slalom where just getting to the bottom is a victory. And Hailey’s been the fastest. Three times. She’s the future of women’s slopestyle, yet her ease and authority with which she puts down tricks stretches far beyond contest boundaries. She’s the future of women’s snowboarding. Scratch that. She’s the future of snowboarding. Hailey wearing the Taylor Jacket (available in 3 colorways). Photo: Vernon Deck // @vernondeck Hailey's energy and style are pure Volcom. I’m super hyped on what she brings to the program. She's got full approval from the team. It's on!!!" -Remy Stratton, SVP Global Skate & Snow Hailey is serious about style and truly loves to ride. It's visible in every turn she makes, every slash, and every air she attempts. It's not fabricated. It's natural. Established at a very young age. At only seventeen, she's both a beacon to snowboarding's roots and a flare to the future, lighting up what's possible when talent, grit, and creativity are fused together. She says, "I cannot stress it enough how much style matters. We're all becoming robots out there, it's driving me freakin' nuts." Hailey on a recent trip in Saas'Fee, a resort village in the Swiss Alps. She has been True To This since she first stood sideways, but now, with the nourishment of the Stone, she can further feed her freedom of expression, and we are so stoked to welcome her to the family.

Skate and fashion: introducing Leila Afghan's photoshoot in London with skatebaorder @queeen_eevee
Leila once again captures the Volcom vibe in the streets of one of the most influencial capitals, London. @queeen_eve highlights some of our winter jackets and iconic Ozzie Wright's printed t shirts in her own style Check out her interview: Your favourite spot to skate? SouthBank - There's always something different going on Where was the first place you skated? Mile End Skate park. I remember passing the skate park and bare wanted to skate so my dad got me one of them Argos decks and I went with him and taught myself. Where is the last place you skated? Bay 66. But I didnt really skate it because on the way I tried bombing some fat steep hill and ate the most shit, that's the same day  broke my leg. How many bones have you broken? I broke like 3 bones in my leg but I cant remember which ones. Tell us about your injury... I dont remember how I broke them because I was drunk. I ended up going to a friends house and sleeping it off but in the morning it was soooo swollen. I couldnt move it so was time for hospital. Best thing about skating... You can have fun without having to pay for anything Worst thing about skating... There's nothing really bad about skating except when guards try and stop you from skating a spot and when it rains.

LONDON PHOTOGRAPHER LEILA AFGHAN IN NYC WITH SKATE GIRLS BRIANA AND YASMEEN
We were fortunate enough to sit with the 3 coolest chicks we know and ask them about everything skate. If you don’t know them already, you will. London based photographer (@leilaafghan), New York skater and model Briana King (@brianaking_) and Brooklyn babe Yasmeen Wilkerson (@yaz.so.mean) strutted their stuff in front of the camera and gave us some insight into their world. Leila, what's your favorite type of photography style and atmosphere to shoot? LEILA: I like weird and surreal - I shoot digital and film, but prefer the dreamy effect with film. When did you start taking skate pics and what took you there? LEILA: I started in fashion styling and photography, but am now progressing and combining documentary style, hence, taking pictures of me and my friends. Where is your favorite spot to shoot skate? LEILA: New York. Favorite spot to skate? YASMEEN: My favorite spot to skate is something new I've been fucking with called Delancey spot or BOCA LES spot. Its a walkway near the Willy B Bridge in Manhattan with a cement block, benches, curbs and other diy stuff. BRIANA: Coleman skate park. Where is the first place you skated? YASMEEN: The first place I skated was an empty parking lot by my house. I was too intimidated to skate in the open as I do now, and I barely knew how to push so I would take my board out there and try to ollie and get comfortable. BRIANA: Out front of the apartment. Where was the last place you skated? YASMEEN: LES skate park is the last place I skated. BRIANA: Blue Park Brooklyn. How many bones have you broken? BRIANA: 1 ankle. I attempted to ollie over 4 decks in front of a four stair, rolled my ankle, broke it, and couldn't trick or treat that night with my newly broken ankle. YASMEEN: My wrist (Smith fracture). Best thing about skating? YASMEEN: Best thing about skating is everything about it. The little lessons it gives you in humility, confidence, and persistence. Skateboarding taught me that strength isn't always physical. BRIANA: The homies! If I didn't skateboard I would be a lonely bub in NYC. And the worst thing about skating? BRIANA: There is no worst thing. YASMEEN: The fuck boys. ALL PHOTOS BY LEILA AFGHAN
