Volcom Hot Spot // Les 2 Alpes

Winter is on its way and we can’t wait to be on the top of the mountains. This week, Yannick and his team from the Volcom Store in the ski resort Les Deux Alpes, introduce you to their resort by sharing their favorite places.

Les Deux Alpes could be called a small paradise for snowboarders. The ski area is huge and you can ride almost all year round thanks to its high altitude glacier at 3600m. Park rats will without doubt find happiness with one of the best snowparks in France. For freeriders, the off-piste areas offer many great opportunities. Snowboarding is one thing. But Les Deux Alpes will also not let you down with the party life, offering you entertainment night and day. To make a long story short, there is something for everyone here.

Where to eat ?

If you think a ski resort can’t accommodate a true gourmet restaurant? The Raisin d’Ours will prove you wrong, every day in the winter season. You can expect the most passionate food there. The place offers a warm atmosphere and the team will surely put you at ease. The greediest will enjoy different dishes of fish and meat. But will leave it to you to discover the menu.

Casa Nostra: this Corsican restaurant will take you to the top. At the heart of the resort, Casa Nostra can be describe as the official ambassador of the beautiful island that is Corsica. You’ll be welcomed into a nice house with exposed stone, giving it an authentic vibe. It’s the perfect place to taste fine wines while enjoying tapas. To be honest, 98% of the menu can be claimed to be the truly "homemade". You can even take a look at the many bottles of Corsican wines as the winery is open to the room.

casa nostra

For a Savoyard and traditional cuisine, but always delicious, go to “La Porte d’à Coté”. On the main street of the resort, you can’t miss “La Porte d’à Coté” which actually means “the door to the side”. That name because the lovely couple Nikki and Frank are the owners of The Windsor pub adjacent to the restaurant. Thus, we can go directly from a deckchair on the solarium of the pub to a chair on the terrace of the restaurant to extend the pleasure of being in the heart of the resort. All wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere explained with two words: woody and cowhide.

At the Tribeca, all of the furniture came from second hand market. On the walls are family's photos and some of unforgettable evenings, cause when it goes mad here it goes crazy! You will find a large sun terrace to enjoy your meal and perfect your tan.

Smithy's Tavern is known for offering fantastic food in the upstairs Char-grill restaurant to rocking nights in the bar dowstairs. Here, there's no doubt that you will find a nice restaurant experience or a full on party night.

Maybe you are looking for a slightly more gourmet cuisine in an authentic atsmophere? Le Chalet Mounier will please you. Here is the Michelin-starred highest restaurant of the Isère since it's at an altitude of 1650m.

Where to have a drink / party?

From 3pm onwards you can plan to take a break at Pano Bar, located at 2600 meters. For two hours, the most party loving riders come to dance to the electro mix of the resident DJ. A glass of champagne or a shot of vodka will help you recover from the last slope. If you want to be lazey around a bottle, you can find a VIP area for more private chilling. The view across the valley is sublime. Take off your coat, up on the table and enjoy the electrifying atmosphere. Pano Bar closes at 5pm for a final descent to the station.

It’s too early to go home so let’s continue at the bottom of the slopes. Forget the change or the shower and go directly to the Umbrella Bar. The place takes its name from the huge umbrella that unfolds over the bar to turn the bar into an improvised tent. A large terrace is also available for the less chilly. Cocktails can be enjoyed in a musical atmosphere that mixes electronic music and hits.

Royal! Normal for Windsor, a historical figure of Les Deux Alpes, since it is the last bar that still exist after opening together with the station 20 years ago. This royal house will please those who want to find the best pub atmosphere in this Alpine resort. A very nice pub with banknotes from everywhere glued to the ceiling. All ages and all nationalities intersect with the same happiness no matter what your cup might contain. They have a great selection of beers and whiskeys so you’ll have reason to keep going back for a new one. Also worth mentioning is that you can go to this address early in the morning for a perfect English breakfast before hitting the slopes.

Motown Café welcomes you every day from 8am to 2am in a elegant, friendly and warm atmosphere. If you like to listen to Soul, Jazz or Funk, you should go there and enjoy a free plate of tapas with your aperitif after 6pm. The sun lounge is open until 5pm.

After all the raclette and fondue, it might be time to loose a few calories on the dance floor of the Avalanche, the nightclub of Les Deux Alpes. Run by the same team as the Pano Bar during the day. The sets tend to be quite focused on electronic music and so it runs until 5am with seasonal tourists setting the mood on the dance floor and around the bar.

Where to stay true to this?

Don’t hesitate to ask the team at the Volcom store for the best riding spots!

If you want to try something new, it’s possible to be dropped off by helicopter for the day at l’Alpe d'Huez (the adjacent station) from Les 2 Alpes for a reasonable price.

Then last but not least –Take a ride through the Volcom Store of Les Deux Alpes and update your wardrobe with some of the season’s new arrivals.

Photo Credit : WSL The young french surfer was traveling in Chile with Seb Zanella, Desillusion’s chef editor, to work on his new coming project. Photos Credit : Seb Zanella/Nixon William had the opportunity to be in the draw of the first WSL contest he competed this year, and everything turned like a dream. Heat after heat, William showed incredible surf skills in heavy conditions, scoring big numbers. The final was the high point of William’s trip, where he earned a 10 point ride and the respect of the crowd ! Photos Credit : Seb Zanella/Nixon "Arica is incredible; the waves are always big and powerful, and it's consistent with any kind of swell. The people are great, the food is delicious and I had a great time here!  The waves have been amazing every day and that's the reason why I do these events. I was trying to build my scores throughout the event and I finally did that with the 10 at the end. I drove up here from Santiago and have been surfing the whole way. Those days in France when it was massive helped me a lot to feel confident in this kind of waves and I’m now over the moon with this victory! »    Photos Credit : Seb Zanella/Nixon Congrats again William! Volcom Launches 'Volcom Stone Made' With Release of FW16 Jeans and Chinos Collection
Today, Volcom introduces the Volcom Stone Made design philosophy with the launch of their FW16 Jeans and Chinos collection. Meticulously engineered for life on the road, Volcom Stone Made products feature the highest quality materials with groundbreaking technology integrated at the fiber level and an unparalleled attention to detail resulting in some of the most profound products in the market today. Designed in collaboration with Volcom's world-renown skate team and working with America’s foremost manufacturer of high quality denim, Cone Denim®, Volcom Stone Made jeans feature one or more of the following attributes; "Superior Stretch" with Cone's S GENE® technology, "Anti-Microbial" for stopping the stench of odor-causing bacteria, "Durability" for enhanced resistance to tears and abrasions, and "Water Resistance" for increased liquid and stain repellency. With 2016 marking Volcom's 25th year as America's first boarding company and Cone Denim® celebrating their 125th year milestone as America's premiere denim maker, the timing was right for the two companies to come together to bring to market first an unprecedented collection of performance stretch denim jeans. Included in the Volcom Stone Made collection is Volcom's exclusive introduction of "Anti-Microbial" stretch denim woven by Cone, as well as enhanced "Durability" through the use of CONESTRONG™, and "Water Resistance" via the application of CONEgard™. Staying true to this philosophy, Volcom's venerable chinos program also received the Volcom Stone Made treatment with the introduction of two new styles: the Gritter and the Stranger. Boasting similar "Anti-Microbial," "Durability" and "Water Resistance" attributes as Volcom jeans, these chinos are built to wear easier and last longer. Designed for Skateboarding, Recommended for Life. Taking a cleaner approach to the brand's timeless style of jeans and chinos, Volcom has streamlined their fits across the entire pants category and elevated the performance features on every pair of jeans. With their deep roots in skateboarding and using history as a guide, Volcom has taken the last 25 years of designing pants and scrutinized and modernized every last detail to create a line of jeans and chinos made from high quality materials and construction methods while maintaining the key signature details they've become known for. Every pair of Volcom jeans features felled interior stitching and clean finished pocket bags for added comfort and less chafing, nearly indestructible buckle button closure and upgraded dual finish hardware for increased durability, a hidden phone pocket and double belt loops for convenient utility, while the asymmetrical detail of the offset back yoke and the "V" belt loop remain uniquely Volcom.

Costa Rica's Gold - Surf Team Goes South!
So we took a trip to Costa Rica to shoot our all-new Fall boardshorts & swimwear collections, and instead of ending the story right now with "and the rest is history," we'd like to give you a little insight into our majestic journey to the rugged Central American country. Enter Balaram Stack, Coco Ho, Nate Tyler, Maud Le Car, Ryan Burch, Quincy Davis, and Andrew "Droid" Doheny. Picture a desolate rainforest and narrow unstructured dirt roads echoed by a variety of bird chips and animal calls only to be triumphed by thoughts racing through your head of "where's the beach and how fast can we get there." 3,400+ miles from the nearest home in California, obvious transplants (no help from Balaram & Droid's bleached hair), and a crew full of expensive surfboards and camera equipment is your scene. photos by Tom Carey Quickly finding the way to our newly-found two-week home w/ an epic pool inside a quaint little village, we linked up with local legend Tony Roberts who is a mastermind that paved the way for the community down here by designing skateparks and running various surf tours. After ripping through some fun spots inside the village, and getting weird in the neighboring jungle, we hopped on a friend's boat and made our voyage to the famous Witch's Rock. For any surfer, Witch's is a bucket list mission and our journey there was one for the books! Witch's Rock Our goal was to shoot the team in our new boardshorts and swimwear collections, get some rad action shots, explore the land, and simply have a good time on this journey through a quest for spiritual intoxication. And we got that. But we got more, a lot more. Take a ride with us through a captivating feel-good photo book from our Costa Rican adventure: Droid: pro surfer, pro model.  Maud Le Car (left)Coco Ho (center)Quincy Davis (right) Coco Ho Ryan Burch w/ one of his hand-shaped mystical twin fins Quincy Davis (left)Coco Ho (middle)Maud Le Car (right) Quincy Davis       Buddies Oh hey, Quincy Droid rips!
