Volcom Kitzsteinhorn Banked Slalom 2018

980x540_EVENT-HEADER_preview

The 5th annual Volcom Kitzsteinhorn Banked Slalom is a wrap and another one for the books.
Once again we scored EPIC weather, snow conditions and too many beers to remember.
If you weren’t there, punch yourself.. Yes we know this is a cliché but it rings so true for this event, a mighty fine gathering of splendid people of all ages worshipping  possibly the most open and tolerant religion of all, namely snowboarding

Congrats to the fastest man Pascal Imhof and the fastest woman, Chloé Sillieres

Come nighttime, as always , there was no escaping the legendary party in the fairy-tale Kaprun castle. This year, our very own Olivier Gittler and his band Leopard Ale kickstarted the party, with surprise guest Mike Ravelson joining on stage for the final two songs, before King Khan and the Shrines delivered an absolutely MINDBLOWING set that lasted nearly two hours. This is a must-see band, if you ever get the chance

Big thanks to Kitzsteinhorn for having us, Lippi and his @kitzsteinhornsnowpark shaper crew, Active Hotel (PLs insert address here; https://www.active-kaprun.at/ )

Eagletone guitars, Nitro Snowboards, Burg Kaprun, Leopard Ale, the almighty King Khan and the Shrines and everyone who came out to ride or celebrate snowboarding with us.

Happy summer and see you next year!

RUMBLE FISH
There is snow on the hills of Portugal. The drive to Portugal is long and usually uneventful. But the destination is always worth it. Returning to places you’ve been before can be a hard act to follow. However with the teamsheet assembled we had little doubt we’d be on for a good one. We would rent a house that anywhere outside of Portugal would be out of our budgets and we would live there for the best part of a month as a happy, yet highly dysfunctional family. We would go between wedges in the Algarve, the scary side of surfing in Nazare, 6am finishes in Lisbon and the glorious points of Ericeria. We would call it Rumblefish. Filmed and edited by : Guillem Cruells Starring Alex Bothelo, Gony Zubizaretta, William Aliotti, Joao Moreira, Charly Quivront, Maud Lecar, Bapiste Gaud and Harry Timson. Abandoned Playground launch at Bud Skateshop
After a first event in Paris, Volcom celebrated again its new “Abandoned Playground” collection in Marseille last Thursday. Bud Skateshop was the perfect spot for it, located in the North area of the city, right in the middle of a center called “La Friche” that includes a fun concrete skatepark and various activities for multicultural blend of the area. On top of it, the Marseille bowl contest was on the same weekend so it was a no brainer to go on a mission. Bud skateshop miniramp got fixed for the occasion and some prizes got given away to the good tricks, while the DJ played some good tunes and drinks served. Most locals showed up together with some visiting skateboarders and the spirits were high. Thanks a ton to everyone who came, to Laurent “Momo” Molinier for running the shop and keeping the kids amped, DJ Raf for the sound and  Brian Bunting for the photos Get the “Abandoned Playground” Volcom collection at Bud Skateshop Fares is a young local from “La Friche” who started skateboarding a couple month back, right when he arrived in France from Algeria, he skates everyday since Local Julien Benoliel now works at a Tattoo shop but still shreds hard on a skateboard  The miniramp got inaugurated and annihilated by Vincent Matheron, Sam and the local kids DJ Raf Photo by Nicolas Jacquemin The day after the Volcom event, we went to the bowl check out the action, refresh the troups and support the heavy field of Volcom team riders:  Vincent Matheron, Pedro Barros, Luis Francisco, Vi Kakinho, Marcel Cama, Tom Bellot and Greg Ruhoff Luis on flight mode on the hip Vincent got his Jocker face on for the finals Pedro Barros with a Bs nosepick on the biggest extension Congrats to Pedro Barros for destroying the bowl and taking first place, Chris Russel 2nd and Luis Francisco 3rd

“Mexico City to San Miguel de Allende” on Motorcycles Visiting Ancient Structures + Skateboarding | Speak Two The Wind
This bonus episode of Speak Two The Wind finds CJ Collins, Collin Provost, Jackson Pilz, and others wandering through Mexico on motorcycles, embracing the ancient colonial architectures, 2,000-year-old pyramids, and various skate spots as they make their way from Mexico City to San Miguel de Allende. After the U.S. and Europe tours were finished, we all agreed we had one more trip left in our reserve tanks, so we devised a plan to visit San Miguel de Allende, a colonial-era city 170 miles northwest of Mexico City. We took off from Mexico’s capital on motorcycles with a solid crew and ended up discovering a place called Tula, populated with 2,000-year-old pyramids and structures, it was quite a sight to see. Continuing our journey, we finally made it to San Miguel de Allende where we stayed at our friend Luka Barrena’s house who coincidentally has a skate bowl in his backyard. The bowl was perfect and his backyard was full of tents and motorcycles. A local chef even volunteered to cook the local cuisine for us. We shared good laughs and good food with the local crew, skating and sharing stories before it was time to head back to Mexico City. Once we arrived in the capital, our friends Los Viejos, who are a local metal band, played a show for us to give us a proper send off.

Abandoned Playground launch with DayOff Skateshop
On Monday 20th of August, Volcom officially launched the Abandoned Playground collection at DayOff Skateshop in Paris. Located right next to the infamous Place de la République, we set up a pop up store inside the shop for a week and celebrated the collection with a party the next day. Skate team riders Jorge Simoes and Ben Raemers came to shred the city for the occasion with young local Tom Belot, and some best tricks were organized on the plaza using abandoned objects on the Tuesday afternoon. After a good time skateboarding everybody moved to the shop to celebrate with free drinks, Volcom prizes and Joel Aubrée putting on a great tunes selection. Everyone had a blast and we want to thanks everyone who showed up ! Special thanks to Tonton Reddah and Snoop for making all this possible. Photos below by Thibault Lenours.

Episode 1: "California to Arizona" Motorcycling Across The Desert | Speak Two The Wind
In Episode 1 of Speak Two The Wind sees the Volcom Skate Team lift off from Collin Provost's house in Vista, CA, on motorcycles as they make their way through the California and Arizona deserts, skateboarding and embracing all that the open roads had to offer. Following an epic night out in Oceanside that culminated at Collin's house, the crew, Chris Pfanner, Jackson Pilz, Arto Saari, Jelle Keppens, Lannie Rhoads, Jake Smith, Christian Vankelst and Collin set off on the 230 mile ride to Hippy Hole near Palo Verde. Spending the night under the stars the group awoke the next day to make the 170 mile trip to Phoenix where they were in for fun day baking in the sun at a skate ditch.

Episode 2: "Arizona, Utah, And..." Northern AZ to Utah On Motorcycles With A Stop At The Grand Canyon | Speak Two The Wind
Episode 2 of Speak Two The Wind continues with the Volcom Skate Team as they find themselves motorcycling and skateboarding through Arizona and Utah, with stops at Glen Canyon Dam, Horseshoe Bend, Saint George, Valley of Fire and back to the Grand Canyon. After hitting spots in Arizona the crew hit the road heading north. As Chris Pfanner describes it, "it was like riding though a postcard for two weeks." Between the rides, spots were hit and tricks were documented. Towards the end of their two week journey the bond between crew only grew stronger and there was a yearning for more rides and open roads. With such a diverse group of international visitors on U.S. soil, there was no way they weren't going experience the crown jewel of U.S. Natural Park System. So with two weeks of grease and sweat in their jeans, they rode the south rim of the Grand Canyon to explore and take in its beauty. A perfect way to end and epic journey.
